a short short

that field handler havin word again with ol jophyus. always downwind of your shadow, that one is. hot and bother. hot and bother. never shut the shade without blowin off the roof. still he runs like he goin somewhere.
feel bad for that boy of his. ever notice the funny look in that boy's eye when he thinks his da not lookin at him. like the world gonna come along and swallow him up. can't protect a wee bumbler like so. too in for it, they are. life just one long screamin, they know, and why no one doin a thing bout it? just the way it is, wee one. always been.
ah see ol jophyus tired of him already. his flunx start saggin and lookin for a stone to sit it on. hahahahahaha nothing there though for him. poor ol grim. the field handler wants passin right through the hot sands. i see him point and know that where they lost her.
his half star, that who! she go longmanning by night in the hot sands, just her and two kousins, and you know how far spread you gotta go for longmanning, no child's game is it. so one starts the flame over and then the second. but none come out her way, so off they go to see if devil grabbed her. and grabbed he did. no sign. no trace. hot sands just up and swallow nother one, nother night beast roamin.
field handler long lost without her. saw him pulling green grain from out the skunk hole, like an animal. bed fellows say he leakin and screamin all night. say boy feign not to know, not to hear, not sure what to do with dear ol da, not ol nough to take such act. be such man. no one place to tell them where go, what do, who with. field handler gotta know his self. but the sand heat fry his head. he too gone now. now want passin right through the hot sands. sayin he find his half star and bring her back. ol jophyus no stop him. no one stop him. wanna think he can, but boy know. boy see the flashin bove the sunline. see it openin red maw and slurpin. know he be next.
no, can't protect a wee bumbler like so. in it they are. in it too deep.
